Detroit Tigers All-Star Break review.

Currently the Tigers hold a 44-44 record at the All-Star break and are about 8.5 games behind Kansas City for 1st in the AL Central. They are also a few games out of the wildcard spot..so...needless to say, it doesn't look pretty. For a team that started the season extremely hot (I believe 14-2 or 12-2) it's a very disappointing record. Now the question I've seen a lot is, should the Tigers be sellers at the trade deadline? It's actually not a crazy idea anymore. My personal opinion is yeah they should. My reasons for this are

1. We have a HORRIBLE farm system. We have no assets to trade to get pieces for our bullpen.

2. The injury to Miguel Cabrera is a huge problem. He's gone until August.

I say it's time to sell and just try and make a huge run in a couple years. They can move a few older guys and see what prospects they can get in return. In my opinion, this year is a lost cause. It's over. They have no shot. But hey, I'm not Dave Dombroski or Mike Illitch.

Mike Green & Brad Richards...Welcome to Detroit!

Back on July 1st, 2015 the Detroit Red Wings signed veterans Mike Green, and Brad Richards.

Defenseman Mike Green who formally played for the Washington Capitals signed a contract of 3 years $18 million ($6 million AAV) on July 1st. Personally I believe this is an excellent signing for the Wings. He is a proven point producer (45 points in 72 games played last season), even though yes, his best years are behind him, he is still a very valuable player. He will improve the powerplay which finished 2nd in the NHL last season and best of all...... HE IS A RIGHT HANDED SHOT! That's right baby! We finally got our right handed shooting D-man! It's been known for a few years now, that the Wings were in the market for a right handed D-man including when there were rumblings of the Caps moving him before last season started and up to the trade deadline. He provides some veteran experience and can take some of the load off of Kronwall.
Ken Holland has stated that the plan is to slot him with Danny DeKeyser on the 2nd pairing, which I believe is the perfect spot for him.

Now on to the contract itself. While yes, $18 million dollars with $6 million per yer is a bit of an over payment, the term (3 years) is perfect. It's not too long, for what most free agents sign for which is usually in the 5-6 year area. I am very glad to see Green in Detroit and can't wait to see what he can contribute to the Wings next season.

Brad Richards who last played for the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks signed with Detroit on a one year deal worth $3 million but could be $4 million with added bonuses. I once again, love this signing. He adds more veteran experience on a fairly young team (weird to say about the Wings eh?) and can be slotted on the 2nd line, while letting Sheahan move down to the 3rd line which I believe is the perfect spot for him at this point in  his career. He still has a little production left in him scoring 37 points with Chicago last season along with 14 points in the playoffs. With Datsyuk potentially missing the start of the season Richards could also play the first line role until Pavel gets back. The signing also allows the Euro Twins to reunite and play together when Datsyuk is healthy again. Again, the perfect term on the contract and also good value as well. I think Ken Holland really did his job this year. Two great signings who will fit in very nicely on a Red Wings team that very nearly (should have with how the Wings dominated game 7) knocked out the Tampa Bay Lightning who went on to face the Hawks in the final. Next season is really shaping up to be a great one. I am very excited to see this team in action come October.

LETS GO RED WINGS!!!!!

Introduction: What to expect from my blog

Hello, this is my first blog post on well.. my new blog. Let me tell you a little about myself and what you can expect from this blog. I am 19 years old and live in Michigan. I am a huge sports fan with my favorite sport being hockey. I watch the Red Wings, Tigers, Lions, and a little bit of basketball but not a whole lot. This blog will be all about all those things listed above and may even have a few personal things as well. But mainly this will be a hockey blog. I have a huge passion for the sport of hockey and I have been around it since I was very young, maybe about 3 years old so I'd like to think I know what I'm talking about. If there is anything else you would like for me to write about, or if you have some constructive criticism for me I am 100% open to it. Thanks for taking your time to give a look at my blog!
